So this season was definitely all kinds of ropey and while it had some great storylines and episodes it didn't feel like it real stood up as a season in its own right. It spend ages linking through from last season and lots of time looking forward to the next.
I love the idea of Tyrion, Grey Worm, Melinda and Varus running Marina. However my anticipation for that story left me feeling like I didn't really much for the rest.
Also by only really indicating that Jon Snow was dead (and that with a resurrecting priestess close to hand) and fast-cutting Sansa and Stannis there wasn't really any resolution but just a succession of cliffhangers for next year.
Stannis burning his daughter is the most horrible thing in the show since Ramsey abusing Sansa or Oberon getting his eyes gouged out or Jodfrey torturing prostitutes or...
Wait a minute, why do we even watch this show?
Well I didn't expect the dragon to turn up back in Slaver Bay
I keep wondering when the right time for the dragon to re-appear is
The zombie/skeletons in the White Walker horde attack on Hardhome were amazing far better than those featured in the attack on Bran at the foot of the tree all those episodes ago.
I read an analysis the Cersei is a difficult character to like because her plans are neither cunning nor considered but an endless series of expediences. During this season it is hard to agree.
Her dedication as a mother is clearly her redeeming feature, as her brother has already mentioned. Yet in classic tragic tradition here she is imperilling the very children that she's trying to protect.
So much back story about Ned's sister and her elopement/abduction by Raegar. If the show is going to be seven seasons then presumably Jon Snow is going to arrive with his Wildling army and institute a restored rightful rule.
So much effort is going into humanising Stannis this season and showing us different facets of his character that I can only assume he is going to die horribly before the season is over.
Okay the Sansa storyline has slipped over the edge of misogyny that the show tends to dance along. Sansa has spent the whole five seasons being tortured by men and I'm not sure there is any narrative payoff that is going to make it work.
Oh seriously Sansa Stark and Ramsey Bolton? The Stark sisters storylines are twisted beyond belief.
