I read an analysis the Cersei is a difficult character to like because her plans are neither cunning nor considered but an endless series of expediences. During this season it is hard to agree.
Her dedication as a mother is clearly her redeeming feature, as her brother has already mentioned. Yet in classic tragic tradition here she is imperilling the very children that she's trying to protect.
