The show straddles the gap between noir and police procedural uneasily. Would they really not call for backup if they thought they had found the house where Waites is hiding? The arrest of Stokes later seems more realistic.

Nice to see another show that obeys the cast iron law that everything happens in the penultimate episode (9 in this ten part show).

When Bosch talks about burning down the care home that's an example when the show is actually working. It tells you something about Bosch and the situation he's in.

God the episode written Michael Connoelly shows that there is a massive difference between spoken and written dialogue.

Characters start spewing cliches that neither advance the plot nor reveal something about the characters.

The credits are quite cool with the way that the mirror effect is used.

All the good lines are coming from Bosch's partner, he might not have much to say but when it does come you can almost hear the writing team squealing "It's Marlow!".

Not only does the May-September romance not really work for me but why does all this expositional dialogue have to happen as pillow talk? There's no sex and the foreplay has chemistry, but that chemistry is based on ammonia.

The street walkers burn with more passion that Bosch.

The show doesn't really kick off until Episode 5, until then Bosch's dialogue seems to be generated and delivered by some kind of weird robot that has watched too many episodes of CSI.
