Wow, slightly unexpected conclusion to episode 8. While I guessed that Oberyn would fight for Tyrion due to the massive exposition he gives on the matter when he first appears I didn't think the duel would end like it did.

In terms of television it was a great example of rising tension with a sudden reversal.

However overall in the story I do think it is a little strange to have a character appear, have loads of scenes and then disappear completely.

Podrick and Briana on a road trip, should be interesting.

Jamie's gifting of his sword seems a little generous given that his father only gave it to him a week or so ago.

Oh okay, the mystery of who poisoned Joffrey is not going to linger on as mystery, it's going to be answered in the next episode...

The Arya and Hound show rolls on with dark humour. I thought the first episode of the season was initially uplifting but on thinking about it that's just the warped logic of a show where a traumatised teenage girl who thinks she's an orphan murdering people can be seen as upbeat.

That said though the stew scene in episode two was comedy gold and was a good opportunity for scene-chewing by both of them.

The poisoning of Jodfrey is slightly mystifying as it is simultaneously hard to understand who didn't want him dead but who gained from his death.

The scene at the Sept seems to imply that it was Tywyn except that it seems to run against everything he's said to date about family. In particular his inability to kill Tyrion as a baby.

Reek's appearance makes Yara's montage at the end of last season seem more confusing. How much time has passed here, probably weeks but where is Yara?

While I am expecting no change to the cast iron rule that everything major will happen in Episode 9 it was at least refreshing that Tyrion has lost all his friends and allies and is in desperate trouble in episode 3 rather than episode 10.
