This recent radiolab story brought to mind how generally frivolous public debates can be. I've often wondered if anything actually gets decided through the public debate process, or if opinions are in any way swayed or formed but such activity.
If Best of Enemies has it right, public debate may fuel or at least assist in polarizing the populace.
