When I became the University of Western Australia's first webmaster in the mid 90s, there were a variety of logos used on the website, the most common of which looked like: ![uwa_logo.gif](/media/288/uwa_logo.gif) ---- There were other variants and they were not only inconsistent with each other but with the logo as it appeared on printed material. ---- By 1997, I was running the Publications Unit at the University, still responsible for the Web but also official printed publications. Colin "Cam" Campbell-Fraser, who had joined UWA in 1996 as the Director of Public Affairs, initiated a project to introduce a single consistent logo across Web and print. I worked with Cam and an external branding consultant to develop the new logo. The result was: ![h_325_86.gif](/media/289/h_325_86.gif) ---- UWA continues to use it to this day. Or at least did, until today. I just saw an announcement of new branding that included a video that ended with the following logo and logotype. ![Screen Shot 2015-05-08 at 6.40.21 PM.png](/media/290/Screen%20Shot%202015-05-08%20at%206.40.21%20PM.png) ---- I'm somewhat sad to see the old one go but I'm delighted that a logo I was involved in standardizing lasted so long. It certainly lasted longer than the technologies we were using for the website back in the mid-to-late 90s :-) ---- The new logo isn't used in many places yet but I did notice the UWA News twitter account has been updated to use it: ![mvtrGfO5.jpg](/media/291/mvtrGfO5.jpg) ---- I remember back in 1997/98 we standardized on 3 straps on each book. Interesting it's now down to 2 :-)
