I'm somewhat sad to see the old one go but I'm delighted that a logo I was involved in standardizing lasted so long. It certainly lasted longer than the technologies we were using for the website back in the mid-to-late 90s :-)

UWA continues to use it to this day. Or at least did, until today. I just saw an announcement of new branding that included a video that ended with the following logo and logotype.

By 1997, I was running the Publications Unit at the University, still responsible for the Web but also official printed publications.
Colin "Cam" Campbell-Fraser, who had joined UWA in 1996 as the Director of Public Affairs, initiated a project to introduce a single consistent logo across Web and print.
I worked with Cam and an external branding consultant to develop the new logo.
The result was:
