In my PyCon talk on ApplePy I pronounced things like 0xD000
as "dee thousand". I felt a certain uneasiness at the time, but figured people would understand what I meant and it was quicker than saying "dee oh oh oh".
Finally someone called me on it:
Just heard @jtauber call 0xD000 "dee thousand" and I'm just like you can do that??????

Of course, you'd never call 0x10
"ten" so calling 0x1000
a "thousand" isn't much better. But then it occurred to me: is there a name for things like 0x1000
such that you'd pronounce 0xD000
as "dee [that name]" ?
