I didn't even know freshmeat.net had rebranded as free(code) but on 18 June 2014 it ceased operations and became a static site.

freshmeat.net was *the* place to make release announcements back in the day (back when you hosted your project on SourceForge and read Slashdot).

I signed up on freshmeat.net on 1999-06-25 ([my user page](http://freecode.com/users/jtauber)) so coming up to what would have been my 15th anniversary.

The peak of my usage was in 2001 when I was really getting into open source Python. My projects at the time were [Redfoot](http://freecode.com/projects/redfoot) and [PyTREX](http://freecode.com/projects/pytrex).
