thoughts about thoughtstreams

because i am an opinionated person, here are my thoughts about thoughtstreams

• reordering thoughts. if there is a way to do this in the current UI, I have no idea where it is

• some sort of commenting system. not on the whole stream, but on individual cards - sort of like how SoundCloud does it.

I derped about in Firebug's edit HTML thing for a while - this is sort of what I mean, where the >> opens and closes the comments underneath.

• Using images with spaces in them doesn't work. Here's an uploaded image, one with spaces in the name:

It uploads fine, but doesn't show in the Markdown. The top is using %20, the bottom is using literal spaces.

• There needs to be some sort of 'kudos' system - I know jtauber is already working on this - but I thought I'd just repeat it because I can.

I think that it would work best per-card, with maybe a 'starring' ability for the whole stream.

• please have everything show in local time, it's driving me bonkers - since it asks me for my timezone, why doesn't it use it? :C

• being able to associate an image with a stream in lieu of text might be handy, maybe?

• straight to publish when you edit a card

• it would be nice to see some more streams shown on the main page.

In Chrome (on XP at least :P) I can't upload an image named 2013-02-conf-ref.png but I can upload an image named convref.png.

• There needs to be a strikeout option! Maybe whitelisting <strike> or so...

When I originally conceived of ThoughtStreams, it never occurred to me you'd want to re-order cards. My original thinking was that each stream would be a sequence of thoughts.

However, enough people seem to be interested in re-ordering cards that I'm giving it thought (although it will take quite a bit of thought, particularly from a UI point of view).

I think, personally, if I had things I wanted to re-order I'd make child streams for them rather than individual cards. But of course, re-ordering of child streams doesn't exist yet either.

As per reordering, I think that a button that says "Send to #___" might work?

Turns out as we implement this, that just allowing people to repost other people's cards to their own streams is both simple and (potentially) effective (although we'll have to see how people like it in practice).

I would like if reposted cards were styled differently - maybe if it's offset a little bit, and coloured darker, similar to 'quote' sections in newspapers and so.

Additionally, it would be really really nice if the username in the 'repost from' was a link as well. That way, if I see an interesting card reposted, I can go straight to that person's streams to see what else they have to say.

Uploading images sometimes spazzes out - can't upload images without moving the mouse and letting go.

Maybe reposting should be a modal dialog (like what Bootstrap has), so that I can repost multiple items in the same stream without ending up with a lot of tabs.

Because there's a "tweet this stream" - maybe it'd be good if posts to Twitter were associated with the user's Twitter handle? It'd probably have to be set similar to gittip, but it could make things integrate nicely.

Exploring ThoughtStreams content

The user list appears to have been removed, making it impossible to explore the streams of users that are not currently on the front page.

In addition to restoring the user list (in a more prominent/suitable position than before), it would be good to have
